Qualifications

Relationship with Jesus Christ:
An individual's unconditional surrender to the Lordship of Jesus Christ and acceptance of His salvation are the essential foundation of all Christian ministry.  Therefore, an Advocate Wing volunteer must actively pursue a personal, growing relationship with Jesus Christ.

Christian lifestyle:
The Fruits of the Spirit operating in a believer's life provide evidence of his or her surrender to Jesus as well as a testimony to non-believers.  Therefore, an Advocate Wing volunteer must live a balanced Christian lifestyle, which includes:  spiritual and emotional maturity, healthy interpersonal relationships, financial responsibility and a stable living situation.

Local church involvement:
Proactive commitment to a local expression of the Body of Christ is the Lord's chosen means for encouraging both ministry to others and personal spiritual development.  Involvement with MAF's Advocate Wing may provide Christian growth and fellowship, but is in no way a substitute for involvement with a defined group of believers.  Therefore, an Advocate Wing volunteer must regularly participate as an active member of a local church.

Advocacy:
Jesus offered Himself as a substitute for all sinners.  He asks us simply to stand in the gap and minister His grace to those least able to help, defend or provide for themselves.  The entire ministry of MAF rests on this expectation of Christian service.  Therefore, an Advocate Wing volunteer must demonstrate a heart for people separated by physical and spiritual barriers from the life-changing truth of Jesus Christ by taking proactive steps of advocacy for them.

Cross-denominational perspective:
MAF serves the entire body of Christ via 600 different church, mission, and relief & development organizations worldwide.  These groups span the entire range of Christian practice and doctrine that fall within the umbrella of the MAF Statement of Faith.  Therefore, an Advocate Wing volunteer must be comfortable working in close cooperation with Christians from many different denominations.

Abide by MAF policies and authority:
MAF operates in remote, hostile and dangerous environments around the world.  In order to present and maintain a unified Christian testimony in all expressions of our ministry, MAF requires a keen sense of responsibility for the appropriate stewardship of human lives, finances and compliance with MAF policies and procedures.  Therefore, an Advocate Wing volunteer must agree to abide by MAF policies, procedures and Statement of Faith as well as cooperate with and operate under the authority of his or her direct supervisor.

Team building:
MAF conducts precise technical operations across multiple cultures and time zones.  Only a closely knit team working with a high degree of coordination can provide the support required.  Therefore, an Advocate Wing volunteer must display a problem solving, cooperative attitude towards building teams that make the whole organization successful.

Support MAF:
Advocates share how MAF effectively overcomes barriers to the gospel and offer ways for potential donors to become involved in the ministry.  Therefore, an Advocate Wing volunteer must demonstrate the same commitment asked of others with regular prayer and financial support at a level appropriate to his or her means.

Email access:
MAF worldwide communications systems rely on access to the Internet for speed, accuracy, security and economy.  Therefore, we recommend that an Advocate Wing volunteer maintain an active email account and have access to a computer connected to the Internet.  If this is not possible, alternate communications methods will be considered.
