Dennis and Rose Bergstrazer,
with their daughter, Jessica, are missionaries with Mission Aviation
Fellowship, serving in Indonesia. This past term, Dennis and Rose had
the privilege of opening and living at a new base in Timika, Papua.
From its inception to its realization, God has blessed this endeavor.
Now that this base is established, the church leaders in Timika confirm
that its strategic location has been successful in multiplying the
effectiveness of their work in building God’s Kingdom in that area.
Dennis and Rose were the only missionaries in Timika, and one of a few western families who speak Indonesian there. This allows them to quickly make friends and see doors open for ministry outside the normal realm of MAF service.

Tribal languages in Indonesia are as numerous as the islands of that vast country. In an effort to connect with the villagers at each landing site, Dennis tries to learn at least a word of greeting in each language. As he does this, he is reminded of Revelation 7:9-10, and looks forward to the day when he will stand with the Indonesian believers before the throne of God and add his voice to the choir in worship to the Lamb.
Rose's ministry centers on providing a loving, Christian home for Dennis and their daughter, as well as hospitality for frequent visitors. Rose says, “It is particularly satisfying to open our home to those who need a place to stay while they are getting medical care, or are in transition to or from their remote village, or just needing a few days to rest and relax.” Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” She says, “This verse is a favorite because it has sustained me during difficult times of change."
Dennis was born in Harvey, North Dakota, and moved to Little Falls, Minnesota, when he was five. Rose also grew up near Little Falls, and met Dennis in High School. Dennis joined the Air Force as an aircraft mechanic, and later flew helicopters in the Army. In 1974 he and Rose were married.
While stationed at Kadena Air Force Base in Okinawa, Japan, Dennis and Rose came to know the Lord as their Savior. Here they were challenged, through several individuals, to commit their lives to the Lord and serve by spreading the Gospel through the use of aviation. Dennis then attended Moody Bible Institute where he received a B.S. degree in Missionary Aviation Technology, and obtained a commercial pilot license with an instructor’s certificate for both fixed-wing and helicopter. He also has a commercial glider's license and ratings in multi-engine sea and land aircraft. Rose attended business school and night courses at Moody Bible Institute while Dennis was a student there.
