John and Tanya Boyd, along with their children Stuart (15), Ashleigh (13), and Alana (10), are in their 17th year of service with Mission Aviation Fellowship. They have served in Zaire/Congo before evacuating during the coup of 1996, then in Haiti, Lesotho, and South Africa as CEO for 4 years. Six years ago they accepted the call to serve at MAF-US Headquarters where John was Vice President of Ministry Advancement. In October 2007, John accepted the role as President and CEO. John and Tanya confirm that, “The most rewarding aspect of our ministry is seeing individuals and communities transformed by the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and helping meet the daily needs of suffering people.”

John was born in Dunbar, Scotland. At the age of three his family emigrated to Africa, where he lived in Zambia, Zimbabwe, and South Africa. As a boy, John had a keen interest in flying. God used the book, Jungle Pilot (the story of Nate Saint, an MAF pilot martyred in Ecuador) to plant a seed in his heart for missions. Thirty years later, realizing his need for a Savior, he committed his life to Christ. John has both commercial fixed-wing and helicopter pilot’s licenses with instrument rating. His extensive business travels while working in the corporate world enabled him to see first-hand the complexities of different cultures and their need for the Gospel.

Tanya was born in Grahamstown, South Africa, but moved to Kimberley, where she completed her schooling. After graduation, Tanya earned her diploma in Business Management. Her career led her to own and manage a successful computer company. “It took me a long time to realize that I needed Christ in my life,” Tanya relates, “but finally I was humble and willing. On February 17, 1991, I committed my life to Christ.”

As an MAF pilot, John flew some 800 hours a year in support of the church, missionaries and medical ministries as well as relief and development organizations. “Giving practical aid and sharing the love of Christ with those I had contact with was such a tangible expression of God’s love for all people,” John comments. A favorite verse is Isaiah 41:10, “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” God’s call into leadership continues to fulfill John’s desire to serve Him through the global ministry of MAF.

Tanya’s ministry centers on maintaining a loving Christian home for John, and their three young children, and providing hospitality. She particularly enjoyed beginning a ministry with missionary preschoolers. God’s call continues also in ministering to their local neighborhood children. A favorite verse of hers is Joshua 24:15, “But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”

To fund the worldwide ministry of MAF, God is faithful in providing loyal, generous ministry support from thousands of His most caring people. He has called the men and women of MAF to serve Him in a unique way. He is also calling thousands of Christians like you around the world to play a special role in the ministry of MAF.

You are invited to become a ministry partner with John and Tanya in this strategic ministry. Please prayerfully consider involvement with them through prayer and/or financial support.
