Bio

Amber Desist is a pilot/mechanic with Mission Aviation Fellowship, assigned to Sumatra, Indonesia.  Amber's heart's desire is to help others and serve them in God's name, and demonstrate His love.  Amber greatly enjoys serving in Sumatra, helping not only to rebuild its Tsunami stricken areas through  MAF's humanitarian flying of relief personnel, but even more so through the building of relationships, helping its people through love and friendship.  Amber is strengthened in her service through the words of 2 Cor. 2:14 "But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumphal procession in Christ and through us spreads everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of him."

Amber was born in Louisburg, PA. At the age of three, her family moved to northern CA. Amber grew up in a single-parent home with her mother, brother and two sisters. In the fourth grade they moved to Hydesville, CA.    It was there that she began attending church. "God used that family of believers in my life in an awesome way. They were a good family to me. They loved me and nurtured me in the Lord."

As a freshman in high school, Amber decided to follow Christ. During that time, she participated in several short-term church trips to Mexico. On one such trip during her freshman year at College of the Redwoods in Eureka, CA, she received her call to overseas service through aviation in particular. "It took three years before I finally left for Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, IL, to start my training."

In that time she completed her A.A. degree at Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo, CA. She went on to Moody Aviation in Elizabethton, TN, where she graduated with her B.S. in Aviation Technology, an Aviation Maintenance Technicians License, a Commercial Pilots License (SEL), and a Certified Flight Instructor rating.

Amber's favorite life passage is Phil. 3:7-14.   However, her current favorite comes out of Joshua 1:9 "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go."

To fund the worldwide ministry of MAF, God is faithful in providing generous financial and prayer support from His people. He has called the men and women of MAF to serve Him in a unique way. He is also calling people like you around the world to play a special role as partners with MAF.

You are invited to become a partner with Amber in this strategic work. Please prayerfully consider involvement with her through prayer and/or financial support.
