Canada! We made it!
The final week of our road trip flew past. We had a great visit with friends (old and new) in Wisconsin. Then spent a great evening with my sister in Chicago. The next several days were spent mostly driving. Friday night we arrived in Vermont and crossed the border Saturday morning.
Since then things have been somewhat overwhelming. Sherbrooke is a French town. Yes, some people do speak English as well, but it is wholly French. This will be great for our language learning, but upon our arrival was quite a challenge. During our first day we went over our apartment details with our landlady in mixed French and English (I think we understood everything), ordered lunch at McDonald's (the cashier must have thought we were nuts), and bought groceries (I still don't know what the lady asked us when we were checking out!). By the time we got back to our apartment we were exhausted.
However, God had some wonderfully helpful (more bilingual than us) friends already lined up! They had us over for lunch on Monday and have since given us the grand tour, helped us find and transport furniture, got our electricity set up, let us use their phone and internet, and been a blessing in so many other ways. We couldn't be more grateful!
