Kansas (July 24, 2008)
So here I am in Kansas, where the high temperature today was 99 degrees. Tomorrow is forecast at 98. But that's ok. It feels really good after spending all day in a freezing cold classroom:-) I am in Wichita, Kansas for 2 weeks going through a training course at Flight Safety International. The course is focused on learning the main systems of the Cessna Caravan (landing gear, flight controls, electrical system, etc.). I am attending the class because MAF operates a Caravan in the Congo where Kathleen and I will be serving. It is a larger aircraft than the Cessna 206 (MAF's most used airplane), is capable of carrying 9 passengers, and has a turboprop engine than can run on jet fuel instead of aviation gasoline.
The course has been a very good introduction to the Caravan, and I am very glad that I have been able to be here. But I am also really looking forward to going home tomorrow. Where, incidentally, the temperature is forecast to be a very pleasant 75 degrees. With a temperature difference of 25 degrees I might say, "I have feeling I'm not in Kansas anymore."
Below are some pictures of the Caravan.

This MAF Caravan in the Congo is one of the very first Caravans produced by Cessna in 1985.
