"Is
not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of
injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free
and break every yoke? Is it not to share your food with the hungry and
to provide the poor wanderer with shelter- when you see the naked, to
clothe him, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood? Then
your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will
quickly appear; then your righteousness will go before you, and the
glory of the LORD will be your rear guard." Isaiah 58:6-8
The verses above, Isaiah 58:6-8, have significantly impacted Jonathan's life and his decision to serve the Lord as a missionary with Mission Aviation Fellowship in Africa.
Having grown up in an MAF family living in Lesotho, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, Jonathan is excited to return overseas and use his skills as a pilot to serve those who are positioned in hard places, bringing physical and spiritual relief, and being a witness to the transforming power of God's love as expressed in Jeremiah 9:23-24, "This is what the LORD says: ‘Let not the wise man boast of his wisdom or the strong man boast of his strength or the rich man boast of his riches, but let him who boasts boast about this: that he understands and knows me, that I am the LORD, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight,' declares the LORD."

When Jonathan was 12 his family relocated to Redlands, CA, where he attended junior high and high school. Jonathan remembers coming to know Christ at an early age. Through the testimony of his parents he not only heard about Jesus, but saw their faith lived out as an expression of love to God. This love motivated Jonathan to pursue Christ and to live out his own faith. While Jonathan was attending Biola University he began to realize his passion for missions and aviation, and the unique way God had equipped him for a life overseas. After graduating from Biola with a degree in Biblical Studies he attended a 2 year A&P program at San Bernardino Valley College (SBVC) earning his airframe and powerplant ratings. While in school at SBVC he also began flying at a nearby airport and over the next few years earned his fixed wing commercial pilot's license with instrument rating.
