Exciting Kalimantan Projects Completed
Recent days have had 2 exciting projects completed in Kalimantan!
First, the Kalimantan program's new Grand Caravan, a larger airplane than the standard 206, arrived in Tarakan, Tim's home hangar, in October and is in operation now! This 10 passenger plane uses jet fuel, easily obtainable in Tarakan. The avgas used by the other planes is expensive and increasingly difficult to obtain, so the Caravan provides relief for the shortage of avgas faced by the other planes.
Second, a new concrete hangar is now FLOATING in Palangaraya! After months of construction, this concrete and styrofoam floating hangar now provides a safe place to dock and work on the float planes that serve that area of Kalimantan. Many people laughed at the absurdity of a huge concrete hangar being able to float on the river! (Wouldn't you????) But the engineering design was just right, and the 375 ton hangar floated when it was pulled out into the river on October 28, 2008!
