Adopt this Plane

Meet “9Q-CMO”!

This MAF Cessna 208 Caravan serves in west Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Some of its stories are fascinating … many of its flights are lifesaving … all of its service is life-sustaining. Welcome aboard!

When 9Q-CMO flies to the rural hospitals of west DRC, it can be loaded with more than a ton of medicines! 9Q-CMO responds quickly in emergencies, such as medical evacuations. Much of Congo is inaccessible other than by MAF aircraft, so 9Q-CMO is invaluable. It can reach any village with a safe airstrip in one day. A one- or two-hour flight saves a week of travel in a four-wheel drive vehicle or riverboat, or saves two weeks of trekking on foot—a dangerous proposition.

When Mount Nyiragongo erupted several years ago near the city of Goma in east DRC, 9Q-CMO immediately transported a team of experts to evaluate the extent of the damage and assess the needs in the area. Though a 160-foot-wide lava flow obliterated half the runway at Goma’s airport, 9Q-CMO was able to land safely on the short stretch that was still intact.

War is still affecting parts of DRC. Though years of conflict have forced many missionaries to leave, some mission agencies and churches continue to send teams there on short-term mission trips. 9Q-CMO is the ideal plane for transporting these teams to remote villages where they disciple those who have been led to the Lord, as well as support and encourage new churches. With its comfortable cabin, 9Q-CMO allows a mission team to arrive rested and ready to start working immediately, even after an extended flight. When bad weather sets in and roads are completely impassable, 9Q-CMO’s radar and instruments allow it to take to the air in nearly any weather condition.

Through the MAF Adopt-a-Plane program, you too can play a significant part in transporting medicines to hospitals, shuttling missionaries and national church leaders to and from villages, helping Congolese people in need, sharing the Gospel, and strengthening local churches.

For just $1 a day, you can adopt 9Q-CMO and help continue—and increase—this vital ministry. Please sign up today! On behalf of the missionaries and thousands of west DRC’s needy who depend on MAF, thank you for your prayers and support. We thank God for you.
