Meet “7P-CMH”!
This MAF Cessna 206 Turbo serves in mountainous Lesotho where turbocharged engines are required for safe operations in thin, mountain air. Some of its stories are fascinating … many of its flights are lifesaving … all of its service in Lesotho is life-sustaining. Welcome aboard!
The child is only seven, maybe eight. Tuberculosis has ravaged her body for years, but, for unknown reasons, her parents chose not to bring her to the clinic for free treatment. As a result, both of her legs had to be amputated. Today, 7P-CMH flies her to the clinic for regular checkups and ongoing treatment. There she uses a wheelchair, but in her village she had to scoot around as best she could—until MAF pilots contacted a Lesotho civic organization that was giving away wheelchairs. She received a bright red one, just her size! Now she takes it with her every time she flies to the clinic.
Providing essential flights for teams of doctors, nurses, and pharmacists who minister in more than a dozen of Lesotho’s mountain clinics, 7P-CMH saves up to two full days of travel on each trip, days now spent treating people instead of traveling over poorly maintained dirt roads, passable only by four-wheel drive vehicles.
7P-CMH frequently flies pregnant mothers to the hospital when they face complications. One MAF pilot was flying an agricultural missionary and his translator into the mountains when he received an emergency call to pick up a mother-to-be in distress. Diverting his flight, he landed so the woman could board. About halfway to the hospital, at 10,000 feet, the baby was ready to be born. Although he had never delivered a child before, the agricultural missionary had delivered calves. So he crawled to the back of the plane and delivered the baby! On the ground ten minutes later, nurses checked the newborn and its mother, and both were well. Later, mom and baby were flown back to their village. All in a day’s ministry for this MAF plane!
When a severe drought struck Lesotho, 7P-CMH joined two other MAF planes to deliver more than 40 tons of food to starving people living in the mountains. After each plane was unloaded, a representative from the Christian relief agency that supplied the food stood atop the bales of corn meal, beans, and other staples, and shared with villagers about Christ’s love for them.
Through the MAF Adopt-a-Plane program, you too can play a significant part in providing medical care to those in remote villages, shuttling national missionaries in and out of mountain communities, delivering food to the starving, and linking western missionaries to their own sources of supply and encouragement. One missionary said that if MAF were not there, she would not be able to minister in Lesotho.
For just $1 a day, you can adopt 7P-CMH, and help transform lives through this vital ministry. Please sign up today! On behalf of the agencies and thousands of Lesotho’s needy who depend on MAF, thank you for your prayers and support. We thank God for you.
