Meet “Pak Man”!

This MAF Cessna 208 Caravan serves in Sumatra, Indonesia. Some of its stories are fascinating … many of its flights are lifesaving … all of its service in Sumatra is life-sustaining. Welcome aboard!

In December 2004, a 9.2 magnitude earthquake caused a devastating tsunami to crash across the northern tip of the island of Sumatra. More than 170,000 people were killed and 550,000 were displaced. Geographical areas were disfigured, and the transportation infrastructure was destroyed. Within days, three MAF airplanes were there, delivering food, water, medicines, and other necessities to people who others were unable to reach.

PK-MAN, affectionately called “Pak Man,” arrived in Sumatra in fall 2007 after serving many years with the MAF program in Papua. Pak Man replaces aircraft PK-MPJ. This aircraft and its crew bring God’s love and life-sustaining services to villagers living in desperate circumstances.

Pak Man supports a number of humanitarian organizations working in Sumatra. One of these, Samaritan’s Purse, frantically contacted MAF on January 14 to request an emergency evacuation of one of its workers. The young woman had been riding a motorcycle on the island of Nias when she was struck by another motorcycle traveling at high speed. Although she had been wearing a helmet, the woman sustained life-threatening head injuries. The Samaritan’s Purse staff was relieved when Pak Man arrived. After a two-hour flight, MAF delivered the injured woman to a hospital in Medan, Indonesia. She has since fully recovered and returned to ministry work in Nias.

Through the MAF Adopt-a-Plane program, you too can play a significant part in bringing medical help and God’s love to the people of Sumatra.

For just $1 a day, you can adopt Pak Man and help transform lives through this vital ministry. Please sign up today! On behalf of the agencies and the thousands of Sumatra's needy who depend on MAF, thank you for your prayers and support. We thank God for you.
