Meet “HH-MAF"!
This MAF Cessna 207 serves in poverty-stricken Haiti. Some of its stories are fascinating … many of its flights are lifesaving … all of its service in Haiti is life-sustaining. Welcome aboard!
To volunteer in Haiti’s interior, work groups from U.S. churches can face a grueling trip of 10 to 12 hours on difficult roads. A truck transports the teams along with any heavy tools, materials, medical and dental supplies accompanying them. Many volunteers would be discouraged from such a trek, and perhaps never come again, were it not for the more effective MAF alternative.
A team and its equipment can board the MAF Cessna 207 and arrive to work in 30 to 45 minutes! Thanks to HH-MAF, teams that regularly train national pastors for Haiti’s growing Church use their time to teach and disciple rather than face the hazards of poorly repaired roads and protest rallies that stall traffic in this politically unstable country.
Some of the quarter million pounds of cargo that HH-MAF carried last year included more than 1,500 live baby tilapia fish that were transported to an orphanage. Within three months the fast-growing creatures were mature enough to reproduce and provide the children with an ongoing source of valuable protein. Other unusual cargo hauled by HH-MAF included banana trees brought in for reforestation, soil samples flown out to determine what crops would be most productive, and seeds to help lift Haitian farmers out of poverty.
Of the more than 4,200 passengers who traveled aboard HH-MAF last year, a large number were missionaries sharing the Gospel and building up Haitian believers in their faith. This aircraft also delivered satellite dishes to missionaries so they can connect to the Internet. Now, they simply send an email message, and HH-MAF soon brings them needed supplies or flies in to pick them up.
