The Heart of Ministry

The Incredible Tapestry Woven by the Hand of God

By President John Boyd

HOW MAGNIFICENTLY THE Lord weaves together our lives, beautifully entwining the skills and gifts of many partners into the ministry tapestry of Mission Aviation Fellowship.

I watch in wonder as He brings to MAF many volunteers, all with a variety of experiences and skills. To my amazement, they are often exactly what is needed at the moment.

I’ve fellowshipped with scores of them at MAF. They may live in the local area, or have driven thousands of miles to MAF headquarters, parking their home-away-from-home in the MAF RV Park. When they see how their abilities mesh with the needs of this ministry, they too are amazed.

Some acquired skills decades earlier, skills they thought would never be used again. With joy, they find these talents awakened, but this time for the advancement and support of the ministry of MAF. Truly, our Lord is the greatest logistics manager in the universe! All glory goes to Him.

In the Tech Corner article on page four, and elsewhere in this issue, you’ll meet a few of those volunteers. Steve Broughham is a retired milling operator who worked for years at the Boeing Company. Steve is using his skills to fabricate tools for MAF’s new KODIAKs, saving the ministry thousands of dollars.

Ed Rehberg is retired from Hewlett-Packard. He started out designing steam locomotives! This man loves the Lord and is one of the most gifted machinists you’ll ever encounter. The MAF Nampa hangar turns to him for the big challenges!

There are so many others, serving and loving their Lord in a variety of capacities, using their gifts in remarkable ways for the sake of people in remote places. I salute you all for your valuable assistance!

Have you ever thought about volunteering at MAF headquarters in Nampa, or even overseas? If so, please contact Becky Lee using the online inquiry form. I already know the first step she will suggest … pray! Align your mind and will with His. You can also reach Becky at 1-800-FLYS-MAF (359-7623). Or learn more at www.maf.org/volunteer. Let the Lord weave the tapestry of your life with the ministry of MAF. God bless you.
