Bio

Mike and Sharol Shutts, along with their children, Joshua (1986), Joel (1990), and Joanna (1992), have been missionaries in Lesotho, Africa with Mission Aviation Fellowship since July 1995.

For the first eight years Mike served as a Maintenance Specialist in Lesotho, Director of Maintenance and Chief of Maintenance for Lesotho, Zimbabwe, and Mozambique. In 2003, he became the Program Manager for Lesotho and served in this capacity until June 2008. After returning from furlough, he resumed the roll of Director of Maintenance. Mike saw the need for more maintenance staff in Lesotho and recognized that this is where the Lord has gifted him and has called him, so maintenance is where he needs to be. "If the planes are not flying due to maintenance issues, how can we meet the needs of the Basotho people? This is what I enjoy doing, using my God given maintenance skills to spread the Gospel of Jesus in Lesotho."

For Mike, I Corinthians 3:6-8 is a good reminder that "the Lord calls us all to serve Him in different ways. Each one of us touches people's lives in special ways: some plant, some water, and some harvest. Wherever God has called you to serve, do it wholeheartedly.

Sharol's primary responsibility is to provide a nurturing home for her husband and teenage children. She is also involved in other ministries which include helping out in the MAF accounting office, leading a worship team at their local church, providing hospitality, and keeping up on correspondence

II Chronicles 7:14 has special significance for Sharol. "Our land needs healing - both our homeland, the USA and our adopted land, Lesotho. This verse reminds me of our responsibility as Christians to be humble, pray and seek the Lord's face. In turn He will forgive us and heal our land."

Mike was born in Wichita, KS and moved to Borger, TX, at the age of five. As a freshman in college, he felt the Lord calling him and at that time, he accepted Christ as his personal Savior. Mike attended Frank Phillips College in Borger, Texas, West Texas A&M University, graduating with a Bachelor's in General Studies, and Texas State Technical Institute. He is a licensed A&P mechanic and is an Authorized Inspector.

Sharol was born in Lone Pine, CA. When she was 18 months old, her family moved to Brazil as missionaries. Her mother led her to the Lord when she was seven years old. Sharol attended Frank Phillips College where she met Mike. They were married after their sophomore year and moved to Canyon, TX, to attend West Texas A&M University. Sharol has a B.S. in Biology.

For the first eight years Mike served as a Maintenance Specialist in Lesotho, Director of Maintenance and Chief of Maintenance for Lesotho, Zimbabwe, and Mozambique. From 2003, he has served as Program Manager for Lesotho.  He shares that as 80% of their flying is medical, it has been good to see MAF play such a vital role in helping the people get proper care.  The other 20% consists of relief, development, and church and mission flying.  "So, we are not only helping meet physical needs, but spiritual needs also."
