Dave and Joy Blomberg have served with Mission Aviation Fellowship for 35 years. As the Director of Ministry Partnership, Dave and his staff have the privilege of helping train and guide new staff members as they build a team of prayer and financial partners. Combining his overseas experience with management and financial skills, Dave has the unique ability to fill this key role. A recent highlight for Dave was seeing two of his own sons go through this process as they begin careers as MAF pilots.
Joy’s role as Director of Information Technology is both challenging and rewarding. Her IT team is responsible for the data and communications systems at MAF’s home office in Nampa, Idaho, as well as support for overseas programs. IT staff also operate the Mail and Print center, a key business function for the organization. The IT department is essentially the backbone of the operational success of the home office, which facilitates the overseas ministry of MAF.
Dave and Joy have unusual stories, as they look back over the years. Early in 2007 they both lost their spouses – just two weeks apart. Steve King suffered an unexpected heart attack, and Kathy Blomberg was called home after a seven-year battle with a neurological disease. The two couples knew each other as coworkers and friends. Dave and Kathy lived 14 years in Africa, where Dave was a pilot and manager. Steve and Joy were 9 years in Indonesia, where Steve was also a pilot and maintained radios. They became acquainted in the early 1990s when both families returned from their overseas assignments to fill positions in the MAF home office.
As Dave and Joy walked their respective paths of grief, one particular Scripture verse kept coming to each of them from a variety of sources: Jeremiah 29:11. As God’s plan unfolded, it became clear that He was blessing them with new love and a new marriage relationship. Their similar backgrounds in MAF give them a unique understanding of each other and a deeply shared commitment to the ministry of MAF. Between them both they have eight grown children and ten grandchildren. Sarah, the youngest, with Downs Syndrome, lives near them.
They look forward to continuing their ministry with MAF together. The gifts of faithful, caring people have sustained them for the past 35 years, and are still needed to enable their ministry.
God calls the men and women of MAF to serve Him in unique ways. He may also be calling you to a special role in Dave and Joy’s ministry. Please prayerfully consider becoming a Ministry Partner with them through prayer and/or financial support.
