Charles and Alleene Dean are excited to serve as short-term missionaries with Mission Aviation Fellowship. They have been assigned to Tarakan, Kalimantan, Indonesia to work in a small school. Alleene will use her gift of teaching to educate the children of missionary families on the field. Charles will work as a project manager for MAF using the gifts that God has given him.
Charles grew up in the Connellsville, Pennsylvania area and attended Pleasant Valley Community Church where his father pastored. Raised in a Christian home, he accepted Christ at the age of five while attending a Child Evangelism Fellowship summer camp program. As a teenager, he became active with CEF as a summer missionary, teaching 5-day clubs in Pennsylvania, Mississippi, and Germany. Charles has always had the desire to follow God and to serve Him in any way possible. He studied Bible at Messiah College where he met Alleene.
Alleene grew up in northern New Jersey in a Christian home where her family was active in the Pequannock Valley Baptist church. She accepted the Lord as Savior at the age of five and dedicated her life to Christ at the age of 13. She attended Brookdale Christian School and then Parsipany Christian School. Christian education had a strong impact on her life, and she desires to help provide other children with the blessing of a Christian education. Alleene then attended Messiah College earning a degree in Elementary Education.
Charles and Alleene were married in 1983 at the New Cumberland Christian Missionary Alliance Church. In 1984, they attended the CEF Leadership Training Institute and then moved to McConnellsburg, PA to become field workers with the Bedford/Fulton CEF office. After four years they left CEF and focused on raising their family. Charles worked in the newspaper/printing industry for 27 years. After Alleene obtained her Special Education degree from Shippensburg University, she worked with United Cerebral Palsy in their early intervention program. Then in 1998, a new Christian school was started in Fulton County where Alleene was the first teacher hired. She worked there for 16 years.
A favorite verse is Psalm 46:10. The first part of this verse has always made clear the importance of knowing God. Recently the rest of the verse has been speaking to the Deans. God wants His name to be exalted in all the earth, meaning in every nation. Charles and Alleene would like to have a small part in seeing God’s name exalted throughout the world by supporting the work of other full-time missionaries, so they are able to serve as God has called them. Charles and Alleene are active members of Chambersburg Mennonite Church. After raising nine children, they are seeing the doors open to explore what God has for them next in their lives.
God calls the men and women of MAF to serve Him in unique ways. He may also be calling you to a special role in Charles and Alleene’s ministry. Please prayerfully consider becoming a Ministry Partner with them through prayer and/or financial support.
