Tripp and Heather Flythe and their children, Drew (8), Ella (7), Harper (6), and Roman (5), are missionaries with Mission Aviation Fellowship serving in Kalimantan, Indonesia.
Tripp loves the role he gets to fill as a pilot/mechanic using the airplane to serve the church, its ministries, and the people of Kalimantan. Whether picking up critically ill and injured patients, taking pastors and evangelists to a conference, or carrying food and supplies to a hard-to-reach village, MAF provides a much needed service to the people living deep in the heart of Borneo. Tripp shares, “It’s really cool hearing about the outreach and the focus on reaching unreached people groups that our [Indonesian] church has. And knowing that MAF gets to fill a role in helping meet the transportation needs of the church here, where roads are almost non-existent, is just awesome.” The ministry of MAF in Kalimantan is also similar, according to Tripp, to Jesus’ words in Matthew 25:36, “I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.”
Heather enjoys being involved in the community, whether it’s teaching English at the orphanage, organizing a crafting group with the local women or welcoming the neighborhood kids into her home. She feels blessed to be able to minister to those around her, especially her family, which is where she invests most of her time and energy.
After graduating from NC State with a B.S. in Civil Engineering in 2000, Tripp served with Campus Crusade for Christ for two years in East Asia, where he met his bride-to-be, Heather. It was there that God burdened Tripp’s heart for missions and reaching the ends of the earth with the Gospel. He also began to learn about mission aviation, and becoming a professional pilot had always been Tripp’s childhood dream. Putting aviation and missions together seemed like the perfect job! After returning from East Asia, he obtained his A&P license, Commercial pilot’s license – single and multi-engine, and instrument rating.
Heather was raised in Buies Creek, North Carolina, a small town just outside Raleigh. She attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and was very involved with Campus Crusade for Christ. It was through this ministry and the grace of God that her faith became real to her and she grew excited about serving the Lord. One of Heather’s first cross-cultural experiences came the summer after her junior year, when she went to East Asia for 8 weeks. The Lord transformed her heart through this experience and gave her a real passion for “reaching the unreached.” After Heather graduated college with a B.A. in Psychology, she returned to East Asia for another two years. During this time she met Tripp, and they were married a few years later.
God calls the men and women of MAF to serve Him in unique ways. He may also be calling you to a special role in Tripp and Heather’s ministry. Please prayerfully consider becoming a Ministry Partner with them through prayer and/or financial support.
