Stephen and Ruth are looking forward to serving the Lord with MAF. As a pilot/mechanic, Stephen will be responsible for transporting missionaries, medical supplies, doctors, and national pastors into and out of remote places of the world. The ministry will also include maintaining aircraft as necessary. Ruth is looking forward to teaching as she is able and building relationships within the local community. They feel blessed to join with others who love the Lord and desire to share His love with the world. They also look forward to obeying the two greatest commandments by sharing the Gospel and meeting needs around the world.
Stephen was born in Louisville, Kentucky. Life in Kentucky was short-lived, however, as his family packed up and moved to West Africa to serve as missionaries. Growing up in Africa has influenced nearly every aspect of his life, including his desire to serve with MAF. At the age of fifteen, while on a stateside assignment, Stephen had the opportunity to take his first flying lesson. Returning to Africa to finish high school, his eyes were opened to the work God was doing all around the continent through aviation. From that moment, Stephen felt the call to missions. After graduating from high school, Stephen enrolled at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University to pursue his pilot ratings. From there he earned his Aviation Mechanic rating at Tarrant County Community College. God has been good to provide Stephen with full-time work as a flight instructor over the last 4 years.
Ruth was born in West Africa where she also grew up as a missionary kid. She is blessed to have parents who love the Lord wholeheartedly and taught their children to do the same. Having experienced firsthand the spiritual and physical needs of the third world, she felt called by God to dedicate her life to missions at the young age of 11.
Stephen and Ruth began dating in high school. As their relationship developed, Ruth learned more about mission aviation and is excited to be joining an organization that fills such a unique role. MAF has the special position of facilitating the ministry of other organizations while also ministering to the physical and spiritual needs of those around them. With an eye to returning overseas, Ruth earned her Bachelor’s Degree in International Studies from Texas A&M University. After college, she discovered a passion for teaching and has enjoyed teaching elementary students for the last 3 years.
Stephen and Ruth dated long distance throughout college. After graduating in the summer of 2009, they both moved to Fort Worth, Texas, and were married August 15, 2009, at Redeemer Church. They have lived in the Fort Worth area ever since.
God calls the men and women of MAF to serve Him in unique ways. He may also be calling you to a special role in Stephen and Ruth’s ministry. Please prayerfully consider becoming a Ministry Partner with them through prayer and financial support.
