Doug and Ruth Harrison are excited to serve with Mission Aviation Fellowship in the Department of Member Care. Also known as Biblical counseling, intentional discipleship, or mentoring, Member Care captures the philosophy of MAF coming alongside its missionary staff and employees. While there is an abundance of spiritual growth and counseling resources available in the West, the Harrisons will spearhead MAF’s initiative to internally support and provide soul care through a variety of means for its missionaries throughout the world.
Doug and Ruth met and married in 1988, when they both attended the same singles’ group at church. As a couple, they have enjoyed using their gifts of hospitality, exhortation and service to build the Kingdom of God through discipleship for the last twenty years. Their family’s greatest delight was the active home support they provided for a number of missionaries when they were home on furlough; whether the need was physical or spiritual, encouraging the growth and development of missionaries was a God-given passion.
In 2004, God lead the Harrisons to serve with MAF in a short-term management role in Central Asia. It was in Central Asia that God confirmed that their life-long passion for discipleship and missions could come together in the role of Member Care. Both Doug and Ruth share a strong commitment to discipleship and the spiritual formation of others, and look forward to investing in the brilliance and longevity of MAF staff overseas.
God calls the men and women of MAF to serve Him in unique ways. He may also be calling you to a special role in the Harrisons’ ministry. Please prayerfully consider becoming a Ministry Partner with them through prayer and/or financial support.
