Doug and Janie Heidebrink are missionaries with Mission Aviation Fellowship currently serving at MAF headquarters in Nampa, Idaho. The Heidebrinks, along with their children, Andrew, Kristin, and Rebecca, served in Tarakan, East Kalimantan, Indonesia, from 1987 to 2000, where they forged close relationships with the Indonesians. Both Doug and Janie say, “It was a joy to serve the indigenous Dayaks of East Kalimantan, meeting both their physical and spiritual needs.”
In Indonesia, Doug served as a pilot/mechanic, Chief Pilot of East Kalimantan, and Manager of Maintenance. In 1997, he was asked to serve as Program Manager of East Kalimantan, a job he found rewarding as well as challenging. At MAF headquarters in Nampa, Doug serves as an aircraft maintenance instructor, evaluating potential MAF candidates, and preparing mechanics to serve overseas in various MAF programs. He also helps maintain the MAF Nampa fleet of three aircraft used for training, as well as refurbish and modify aircraft to be used overseas.
Janie was a full-time teacher and the Superintendent of the missionary kids’ school while the family served in Indonesia. Other areas of ministry for Janie included flight-following, hospitality, shopping for missionaries in the interior as well as caring for her family. Currently she serves at their church as the financial secretary. She also coordinates the Children’s Church and teaches in the AWANA program.
Doug grew up in Ohio and trusted Christ as his Savior when he was five. He studied Bible at Tennessee Temple University in Chattanooga. He later transferred to Moody Aviation in Elizabethton, Tennessee, where he earned an airframe and powerplant (A&P) mechanic’s license and a commercial pilot’s license with flight instructor and instrument ratings.
Doug has found Matthew 6:33 to be encouraging to him when life gets complicated and complex: “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” He shares, “This reminds me to seek the God of Peace and to put things back into perspective.”
Janie was born and raised in Hagerstown, Maryland. She accepted Christ as her Savior as a pre-teen. Studying at Tennessee Temple University and at Antietam Bible College, Janie earned a BS degree in secondary education with proficiency in math and physical education. She shares Matthew 22:37 as her constant goal in life. “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” Janie says, “May I always seek to love the Lord more than anything this world has to offer and may my life be glorifying to Him.”
God calls the men and women of MAF to serve Him in unique ways. He may also be calling you to a special role in Doug and Janie’s ministry. Please prayerfully consider becoming a Ministry Partner with them through prayer and/or financial support.
