Tim and Luce Johnson

These verses mean a great deal to Tim because they speak of God raising up highways and turning mountains into roads (overcoming barriers) to reach His ‘afflicted ones.’ At four bases in Brazil, the Johnsons supported the church in this vision through aviation, while also working to transfer MAF “know-how” and help raise up another multiplier of Christian aviators.

In his last flight assignment on the field, Tim was responsible for field training of newly minted Brazilian pilot/mechanics, teaching them to fly and maintain the larger Cessna 206. He is grateful for the chance to have helped in the preparation and/or continuing education of nine other pilot/mechanics.

Tim was raised in Papua New Guinea, where his father served as a missionary pilot. His family influence and contact with the Navigators drew Tim to commit his life to the Lord. As he continued to grow spiritually, the Lord confirmed his call to mission aviation, and he was accepted by MAF in 1986.

Luce is from midwestern Brazil, and also came to know the Lord as her personal Savior through the influence of her family. Luce earned a BA degree in nursing and continued on for two years of Bible training before being invited to work with Asas de Socorro, coordinating medical outreach clinics with Brazilian volunteers. It was here that Tim and Luce met; they were married in 1991.

For Luce, Mark 10:29, 30 keeps things in perspective. “‘Truly I tell you,’ Jesus replied, ‘no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for me and the gospel will fail to receive a hundred times as much in this present age: homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and fields – along with persecutions - and in the age to come eternal life.’”

Luce served on the Asas Board of Directors, as a base manager, and as a welcome friendly voice on the daily radio contacts with folks out in the Amazon jungle., and continues as the Vice President.

In 2012 Tim and Luce moved into five years at the base near Manaus – Tim managing the shop, and Luce again coordinating medical outreach trips. In 2017 they accepted an invitation to help at U.S. M.A.F. headquarters in Nampa, Idaho – with the introduction of a very promising new fleet management software.

God calls the men and women of MAF to serve Him in unique ways. He may also be calling you to a special role in the Johnsons' ministry. Please prayerfully consider becoming a Ministry Partner with them through prayer and/or financial support.
