Roy and Lientje Kidjo have been serving in Papua, Indonesia, with Mission Aviation Fellowship since 2003. As an IT specialist, Roy manages the VSAT communication network as well as the department of Church Relations in Papua. From 1987 to 2001, they served in their home country of Suriname, South America - Roy as an aircraft mechanic, avionics specialist, and program manager with MAF; Lientje as a bookkeeper with a medical mission hospital.
Reflecting on some of the highlights of their ministry, Roy says, "I had the privilege of serving in my home country, Suriname, for 14 years and in Papua, Indonesia, for 10 years. In addition to serving in the aviation ministry of MAF, I had the opportunity to serve with the local churches in evangelism, teaching the Word, music and even personal counseling ministries. The lack of roads in most parts of this region opens for us the opportunity to provide the church and the community with air transportation. Aviation and IT still play an important role in our quest to extend the Kingdom of God, and we are here to bring transformation to the communities and to win them for Christ."
Roy shares, "I grew up in an Islamic community. Just as my father was about to become an Islamic elder, a visit with a missionary changed our lives. My parents accepted Christ as their Savior. When I was nine, I gave my life to Christ and in the years after, I saw God molding my life." Roy's dream was to become a missionary, and when he met an MAF pilot and learned about MAF, he believed he had found what God wanted him to do. Roy studied electronics at the University of Suriname and then he enrolled at Moody Aviation in Tennessee where he studied avionics. Roy holds an Airframe and Powerplant mechanic's license. Looking back over these years, Romans 8:28 is especially meaningful to him.
As the daughter of a pastor, Lientje had the privilege of growing up in a Christian home. She says, "I accepted Christ into my life when I was 12 years old. When my father died at age 38, I began to realize what Christ really meant to me." Her mother and a missionary were strong influences in her life. Lientje provides a loving home for her family and reaches out to the community by teaching and comforting those around her. One of her favorite scriptures is Proverbs 3:5-6, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight."
Roy and Lientje have a daughter, Stephani, married to David Freeman, and three grandchildren. Their son, Mark, attends Moody Aviation studying to become a mission aviation maintenance specialist.
God calls the men and women of MAF to serve Him in unique ways. He may also be calling you to a special role in the Kidjos' ministry with MAF. Please prayerfully consider becoming a Ministry Partner with Roy and Lientje through prayer and/or financial support.
