Roger and Mary Kay Kolb are short-term missionaries with Mission Aviation Fellowship. They are leaning on the Lord and trusting Him as they take this next step to serve with MAF in Sentani, Papua, Indonesia. This will be their second season, as they served there from 1996 to 1998. Roger will assist with avionics and IT, and Mary Kay will teach missionary children with special learning needs at Hillcrest International School.
Roger is excited to use his avionics skills to maintain MAF aircraft and to apply his desire to support the IT and technical needs of MAF and the mission community. Roger claims Romans 12:4-8 as a favorite Scripture passage and says, “God gives us each unique skills and gifts, brought together in an atmosphere of love, to achieve God’s purposes.” As an engineer, he experienced the importance of teamwork with each person a valued member, who contributed to achieve common goals. He looks forward to applying these principles in doing God’s work in Papua!
Mary Kay is looking forward to fulfilling an important role in the mission community in Sentani as she will teach special needs children at HIS. Her service will allow the parents of her students to continue in their roles such as pilots, translators, and pastors to share the Good News in Papua. Mary Kay notes Colossians 1:10-11 as a favorite verse. “That you may have a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience.”
Roger has served 31 years designing avionics as an Electrical Engineer with Rockwell-Collins in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. God used a providential meeting with an MAF pilot to direct him to using his gifts in ministry. Now retired, he is excited to begin this journey.
Mary Kay teaches enrichment classes, and provides guidance and encouragement to homeschooling families. She is excited to use recently acquired Orton-Gillingham multisensory phonics methods with her students!
Married for more than 31 years, Roger and Mary Kay love sharing life’s adventures together. They have three daughters, Sarah, Rachel and Hannah. Each is now making their own lives and adventures.
Roger and Mary Kay’s prior service in Indonesia provides them with a deeper understanding of the joys and challenges in serving. They have been strong missions advocates promoting education, engagement, and support of those answering God’s call.
God calls the men and women of MAF to serve Him in unique ways. He may also be calling you to a special role in Roger and Mary Kay’s ministry. Please prayerfully consider becoming a Ministry Partner with them through prayer and/or financial support.
