Joyce Lin

Joyce Lin is looking forward to serving with Mission Aviation Fellowship as a Pilot and IT specialist. As a pilot, Joyce will use aviation to help transform the lives of isolated people by providing life-saving medical evacuation flights, delivering supplies for community development, and transporting missionaries, teachers, and humanitarian aid workers to otherwise-inaccessible locations. As an IT specialist, Joyce will set up and maintain computer networks to allow missionaries and humanitarian workers to contact their supporters and access resources on the Internet.

Joyce was raised in Colorado and Maryland, becoming a Christian at a young age through the ministry of a local non-denominational evangelical church. By the age of eight, it became apparent that Joyce was interested in everything related to computers, especially computer programming. Her interest in aviation also developed at an early age due to a pilot neighbor who took her to local air shows.

Joyce majored in computer science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and received both Bachelor of Science and Master of Engineering degrees from MIT. Because of her interest in aviation, she also obtained a Private pilot certificate for fun while she was in college.

Following graduation, Joyce worked for over a decade as a computer specialist, culminating in a position as a Technical Director in a commercial company. During that time Joyce felt called to attend a Christian seminary full-time, and enrolled at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, eventually graduating with a Master of Divinity degree. While in seminary, Joyce discovered mission aviation and was startled to find there is actually a job that combines her interests in computers, aviation, and Christian ministry. From the moment of that first discovery, Joyce has held a strong conviction of God’s calling for her to work towards being a missionary pilot. She obtained an instrument rating and commercial certificate, and worked as a flight instructor in order to fulfill MAF’s pilot requirements.

Although Joyce has been grateful for the various educational and vocational opportunities she has had to date, she is most grateful to personally know God, who has never forsaken her in her lowest times (as there have been many) and has repeatedly turned “mourning into dancing” (Ps 30:11) in ways she could not have brought about on her own. While Joyce will always be excited to fly planes and work on computers, she is most excited to share the love of Jesus Christ by helping to transform other people’s deep discouragement and mourning into dancing and joy.
