John & JoAnn Munsell

John and JoAnn Munsell, along with their children, Marshall and Kelly, are a missionary pilot/mechanic family serving with Mission Aviation Fellowship in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti. They share that they have been privileged to be a key part in so many ministries in Haiti, for over 15 years. "The last three years has been a time of upheaval in Haiti. The Haiti earthquake in January 2010 struck six days after we returned from furlough. The outpouring of God's love and support both to and through MAF’s ministry has been amazing to see. We are excited to see the changes the Lord is working in Haiti after the devastation of the quake."

John fulfills many roles including Chief of Maintenance as he flies and maintains MAF aircraft and is responsible for ordering parts and supplies for the Haiti program. John shares, "I also have the privilege of being involved with encouraging and mentoring several young Haitian men in their pursuit of aviation and I serve on the board of our local church." James 1:5 is a special verse for John. He knows that when times are difficult and confusing, God has promised wisdom to deal with these challenges. John says, "If we ask and look for His direction and wisdom, we will find it."

JoAnn shares that normally her biggest job is being a mom. With both kids in school full-time, however, she has time to be involved in special tasks at MAF. JoAnn explains, "Our last furlough ended just before the earthquake in 2010. When we arrived back in Haiti, a large amount of funds had been sent to MAF for earthquake victims. I took over the responsibility of administering these funds i.e., reviewing projects, determining costs, collecting paperwork, distributing funds, following up with visits to get photos and the peoples' stories. This project took about two years to complete. Outside of MAF, I'm involved in the kids' school – I serve as a board member, I lead a weekly discipleship group of seven 8th graders, and I teach an art class after school once a week. At church I'm in charge of the Sunday school program and oversee the applications and interviews for new members. John and I are also advisers to Haiti Teen Challenge."

John was raised in a strong Christian family in Naperville, IL. His parents and his church presented the Gospel to him, and at the age of four he accepted Christ as his Savior. He earned a B.S. in Mission Aviation Technology from Moody Bible Institute, and holds commercial single and multi-engine pilot’s licenses with instrument ratings. He is also a flight instructor and an aviation maintenance technician with inspection authorization.

JoAnn was raised in Michigan, and comments, "I was raised in a Christian home and accepted Christ at the age of five. In high school being a Christian became more real to me, and I rededicated my life to the Lord. It was then that I decided to pursue full-time Christian work." JoAnn received a diploma in Bible Theology from Moody Bible Institute.

God calls the men and women of MAF to serve Him in unique ways. He may also be calling you to a special role in the Munsells' ministry. Please prayerfully consider becoming a Ministry Partner with them through prayer and/or financial support.
