Dan and Sylvia Rogers

Since 1980, Dan and Sylvia Rogers have served with MAF in Surinam, Haiti, Honduras, Ecuador, and now, at Headquarters in Nampa, Idaho. While serving overseas, Dan served as pilot mechanic.

Presently, he assists in the fabrication shop, part of the maintenance shop at the MAF hangar. There he oversees volunteers that serve MAF in Nampa, making tools for MAF's overseas bases. From time to time, Dan travels to MAF locations overseas for special maintenance projects on the planes. One such trip was to Tarakan, Indonesia for an installation of a cargo pod on a Kodiak. Another more recent trip was back in Surinam for an installation of a new engine and an airframe inspection on NAV, a Cessna 206 that Dan flew on first assignment with MAF in Surinam in 1983. For Dan and Sylvia, a recent two-month stint in Surinam was their 5th time in the country, serving with MAF. While there, they celebrated 30 years since their first arrival in Surinam!

Together, Dan and Sylvia have raised 4 children, Jonathan, Andrew, Heidi and Lori. Dan and Sylvia also enjoyed leading a couple's group in Ecuador, encouraging them in their marriage relationships.

Sylvia has given much hospitality to work-team visitors, led church choirs, taught school music, and given many piano lessons.

Dan, the son of missionaries, Bill and Esther Rogers, who served with SIM, was born in Sudan, and lived in Somalia and Ethiopia, finishing high-school in Henderson, NE. He recognized God’s call to missions at an early age and by the time he attended high school, he knew he would serve as a missionary pilot. Consequently, he studied at Moody Aviation in Elizabethton, Tennessee. He also attended the University of Nebraska and worked three years as an aircraft mechanic.

Sylvia (Friesen), daughter of a farmer Clarence E Friesen, was born in Henderson, Nebraska. She accepted the Lord at age 10 during an afternoon Bible club. Sylvia's mom, Gladys, attended Grace College of the Bible in Omaha, NE at the same time as Dan's mom, Esther. Their mothers kept contact over the years, and the Rogers visited the Friesen home each furlough. Following high school, Sylvia also attended Grace College of the Bible in Omaha, Nebraska, graduating with a B.A. degree in church music.

Dan and Sylvia chose Psalm 37:3-5 as their favorite verses while they were engaged. They married on July 5, 1975 in Henderson, NE. Five years later, with training complete, they applied, and were accepted into MAF in June of 1980.

God calls the men and women of MAF to serve Him in unique ways. He may also be calling you to a special role in the Rogers’ ministry. Please prayerfully consider becoming a Ministry Partner with them through prayer and/or financial support.
