Ian Rojas is eager to employ his gifting as a pilot/mechanic to serve as a missionary with Mission Aviation Fellowship in Indonesia. With MAF, Ian will use aviation to reach remote people groups with the Gospel by supporting missionaries, humanitarian organizations, and the national church to bring physical and spiritual transformation to isolated people.
Ian was born in Illinois but raised alongside his brother and two sisters in cities throughout California. Having grown up in a Christian home, Ian came to faith in Christ at an early age. His faith has continued to grow and develop throughout his life. In high school he began learning to fly under the instruction of a family friend.
Inspired by Paul’s words in Colossians 3:17, “And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him,” Ian decided that if he were to pursue a future in aviation, it should ultimately be for the glory of God. Upon discovering MAF, Ian became enamored by the Kingdom work accomplished through the application of aviation in isolated regions. He knew this was where God had been leading him.
Following his graduation from high school, Ian applied to Moody Bible Institute to further his training. There he earned his aircraft mechanic certifications but was unable to continue flight training due to financial constraints. Ian then moved to the Seattle area where he accepted a job with Boeing and resumed flight training at Mission Aviation Training Academy in Arlington, WA, earning his instrument and commercial ratings. Additionally, MATA provided him with the opportunity to fly for a Bible camp in rural Alaska, where he spent one month transporting kids to and from the camp. This experience confirmed his passion for missions and desire to support missionaries through aviation.
By the end of 2015, Ian had completed a degree in aeronautics through Liberty University. He left Boeing in January 2016 to intern as a mechanic at MATA, and with this experience, set his sights once more on serving with MAF.
God calls the men and women of MAF to serve Him in unique ways. He may also be calling you to a special role in Ian’s ministry. Please prayerfully consider becoming a Ministry Partner with him through prayer and/or financial support.
