Reg and Mary Epp
“I have been encouraged by God’s continued renewal in my life. He has taken us through many valleys. It is there, in the valleys that we have seen Him lift us up ‘on eagle’s wings.’”
Reg and Mary Epp are missionaries with Mission Aviation Fellowship. From 1986 to 1999 the Epps served in Botswana, on-loan to Flying Mission. Now, after serving at MAF's Headquarters from 1999 to 2011, they have returned overseas, this time to Kalimantan, Indonesia, where Reg works with the maintenance team, helping to ensure the airplanes are as safe as possible. Mary has a very important role as a teacher for the MAF missionary kids.
In January 2011, Reg visited Kalimantan in order to deliver much needed parts for an MAF Kodiak. Mary had the opportunity to visit Kalimantan to help with a Vacation Bible School program for the MAF Family Conference in March the same year. By June, they departed for a 2-month language study in Salatiga, Java, before heading to Tarakan. Please pray for God’s blessing as they seek God's Kingdom and righteousness in all they do. (Matthew 6:33)
During their time at MAF Headquarters, Reg worked in the hangar with the rebuilding and outfitting of good, used aircraft for return to service overseas. The airplanes usually receive new or additional radios, and a major airframe overhaul, as well as a new engine. Reg shares, "My twelve years in the headquarters hangar have given me valuable experience which has been very useful overseas again."
Mary shares that together with her responsibilities as a wife and mother, she also enjoyed working with missionary children orientation at MAF, preschool childcare and Sunday school teaching at church as well as substitute teaching in the Nampa school district. She feels this was all good preparation for her role as the first and second grade teacher in the Peningki Hill missionary children's school in Tarakan.
Reg was born in Kansas, but moved around a lot, as his father was a pastor. He trusted the Lord as his personal Savior at age five, through his sister's concern, and his father’s guidance. After a year at Grace University, he joined a Christian music-drama group, The Agape Players. It was here he met Mary, and they were married in 1978.
Mary grew up in the Chicago area. She accepted Jesus as her Savior at the age of four. Her parents were a godly influence in her life, and she dedicated herself to Christian service at the age of 13.
Reg and Mary share, "We continue to praise God for our children. Erin and her husband Boyd and their son Jelani live in the Boise area. Boyd is a volunteer and religious services coordinator in the Idaho prison system. Emily lives and works as an accountant in Seattle. Jason has been cancer-free since October 2000, which was when he received the last of his brain tumor treatments. He is working as a massage therapist in the Boise area."
God calls the men and women of MAF to serve Him in unique ways. He may also be calling you to a special role in the Epps' ministry. Please prayerfully consider becoming a Ministry Partner with them through prayer and/or financial support.
